Join us for a 2 hour workshop that blends our traditional medicine with modern botanical knowledge. We begin with a guided walk on the land around Loon Straits Wilderness Retreat to learn about the local plants that grow and thrive along the shores of Lake Winnipeg. We provide you with printed photos and descriptions of the plants to help you identify the local flora. You will learn how the plants were used by our ancestors for healing, food and relationship. The first hour of the Walk centers around identification and collection of the plants we will use in making medicine.

The second hour of our Walk focuses on making external preparations or teas with the plant material we have gathered. You will choose the type of medicine that you would like to make! Examples include medicinal salves, plant-infused oils, bath salts, and herbal teas – everyday formulations that have long assisted our ancestors with healing, sleep and gentle pain relief.

Your Plant Medicine Walk will be guided by your host, Sharon, who has been studying herbalism for the past 30 years, with a particular interest and fondness for the plants that are native and flourish on her beloved land at Loon Straits, Manitoba. Sharon’s great-grandmother, Rose Anne (also known as Grannie Baby) lived at Loon Straits for most of her life and acted as the local midwife and healer for her community. Many of her traditional healing preparations were remembered and recorded by her children and relatives. It is from those recipes that Sharon developed her interest in natural healing remedies. She is honored and thrilled to share her knowledge with you during your 2 hour Plant Medicine Walk.
Maximum 4 guests per walk. $40.00 per adult. $20.00 per child.
