Come Home to Nature

LOOKING FOR AN EXPERIENCE LIKE NO OTHER?

Come relax at the Loon Straits Wilderness Retreat situated on the east shores of majestic Lake Winnipeg. Located within the borders of the only protected UNESCO World Heritage Site within Manitoba, our unique area is known for deep boreal forests, incredible wildlife and untouched wilderness.

The Ojibwe name for this area is Pimachiowin Aki (pim MATCH – o win – a KEH) which means “Land that gives life” and “Living the good life on the Land”. It is the perfect name for this place; a place where nature and culture come together and are inseparable.

Built in 2013, our lovely main cabin, entitled Angie’s Place has an open-concept living/dining/kitchen area, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, wraparound deck, sunroom, and gorgeous views of the water.

Our second cabin – lovingly named The Lilypad, is a tiny waterfront abode, perfect for a couples” romantic getaway, a small family, or for the solo traveler just looking for some sweet R & R.

Rent Angie’s Place, the Lilypad, or both for a larger family or group!

Miles from civilization, with just one or two locals to keep you from feeling too isolated, Loon Straits is a hidden gem located on the east shores of Lake Winnipeg, under 3 hours drive north of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The drive up to our Retreat is so beautiful that you won’t even mind the distance!

Angie’s Place
The Lilypad

The wraparound deck at Angie’s Place is the ultimate place to bbq, sip a glass of wine or after-dinner cocktail, watch the sunrise with coffee in hand, observe the wildlife (pelicans, ducks, eagles, beaver, muskrats, foxes, the odd moose or bear- the list goes on!) nap in the hammock, or keep an eye on the kids as they cannonball into the water. The lawn is great for playing lawn sports (bocci ball anyone?), tanning, campfires, or yoga. Our private dock and boat launch are steps from the front door so you can launch your canoe or fishing boat in no time.

The Lilypad measures 10 x 20 feet, with a large covered deck that is just steps from the water. Although it is tiny, it has everything you need to have a relaxing and fun time! The glass garage door opens to provide incredible panoramic views of the bay. Spend the morning lounging in bed, breeze drifting in, and watch the wildlife float by. Our adorable stargazing glamping tent, The Lotus, is situated beneath the boughs of an ancient pine tree in the backyard. Loaded with sumptuous floor pillows, rugs, and a queen sized bed, it’s the perfect place for snuggling, napping, reading, and stargazing at night through the clear top.

Reviews for Loon Straits Wilderness Retreat

Highly recommend! This is a fantastic location to stay at. It’s so peaceful and beautiful. The cabin is very nice, has everything you need for your stay. Sharon, the hostess, is super nice and welcoming. I will go back without a doubt, next time for longer.

I didn’t want to leave! From the moment you walk in you feel right at home. This property has everything and more to relax. From fishing, kayaking, canoeing, bird watching, napping, sunbathing, relaxing by the fire, and more I will definitely be back again. Thank you so much for the memories and holiday.”

“The cabin was lovely and the surrounding area was beautiful and peaceful. The wildlife was abundant to view. The people we did meet were friendly and open to providing help if we needed. We would highly recommend this cottage if you are looking for a remote getaway.”

***** 5 STARS – Kevin S.

“Great place! Don’t let the remote location stop you from booking at this hidden gem. The cabin was amazing and comfortable. Everything was ready, jugs of water, firewood and kindling, kitchen with seasonings and essentials. Fishing was great! We caught a whole bunch off the channel a short walk away. The few people we ran into were super friendly. Had an amazing time.”

***** 5 STARS – Steven D.

About Me

Hi there! I’m Sharon and I have owned Angie’s Place since 2017. Built by my Aunt Angie in 2013, I have been privileged to enjoy it with my family for the past 8 years. The land has been in our family for generations and my parents continue to live there, enjoying the peace and isolation of the location. We are in love with our property! I’ve had so many fantastic times hosting family and friends. Everyone who comes to stay is in awe of the natural beauty of the land, as well as the ease and comfort of the cabin. I thought it would be wonderful to share our beautiful property with others who might also appreciate the chance to escape the stress of everyday life and relax in a gorgeous, peaceful setting, surrounded by nature – so here I am in the vacation rental arena! I’d love for you to visit & stay awhile!
